This well told chilling mystery thriller is about Dr Maria Martinez, a consultant plastic surgeon accused and convicted of the murder of a priest, Father O’Donnell. Maria also has Aspergers syndrome and has to unravel her way through the situation she finds herself in. Navigating the alien world of being in Goldmouth Prison, Maria is determined to appeal her case but she has no idea that she is at the center of a much larger picture of espionage. Think Jason Bourne but with a female lead.
The strength of this book is the narrative written from Maria’s point of view, which gives a convincing voice to the character with Aspergers. The story is told from two different times: one from when Maria goes to prison and second when she is having therapy at some future point of time. The two different narratives eventually merge and leave us on a cliffhanger at the end of this book.
I am definitely late to the party when it comes to The Project series and have to say it is a definitely a good thriller read. I have the sequel lined up already on my ereader.
