Book Quote Challenge: Day Three of Three

This is the final day of my book quote challenge and unlike the first two days, I’m going for something more modern and my more recent reads. I’d like to thank Adventures in Thirty Something for nominating for this challenge, it has been a lot of fun.

The rules are:

Post for three consecutive days
Pick three quotes per day
Challenge three different bloggers per day

My First Quote:

He said that if culture was a house, then language was the key to the front door, to all the rooms inside. Without it, he said, you ended up wayward, without a proper home or a legitimate identity

.
From And The Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini

My Second Quote:

IN MOST FAMILIES, there is a favorite child. Parents deny it and maybe they truly don’t see it, but it’s obvious to the children. Unfairness bothers children greatly. It’s hard to always come in second.

From We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves by Karen Joy Fowler

My Third Quote:

Mental illness turns people inwards. That’s what I reckon. It keeps us forever trapped by the pain of our own minds, in the same way that the pain of a broken leg or a cut thumb will grab your attention, holding it so tightly that your good leg or your good thumb seem to cease to exist.

From Shock of the Fall by Nathan Filer
