Finally a paranormal horror thriller tethered logically to reality I can get on board with. Disappearances of people every nine years sends a string of conspiracy theorists in search of the mysterious Slade House. However, the malevolent spirits stationed there are cunning and resourceful until time catches up with them in 2015.
I find paranormal and fantasy hard to read and for this reason found the opening of the books premise difficult to get into, but once I had adjusted to this new environment, which is thankfully logical to follow I found this book just got better and better. The chilling phenomenon on which the existence of the Greyer twins is based was addictive and I found the pages fly by with no thought given to the time I spent immersed in this story.
A truly magical read and a world I hope to revisit soon.
Check out my blog for reviews on pretty much all of Mitchell’s books – the last especially – Bone Clocks – has lots of similarities with Slade House, which has just been broadcast on Radio 4.

I was just browsing his books unsure of what to read next as Slade House is my first book by him. Thank you will definitely read your reviews.

If you like the horror fantasy element try The Bone Clocks. For realism go for Black Swan Green – my favourite – though I read it before I started the blog so no review available.

It is very attractive and appropriately seasonal with our even trying.

“The Haunting of Hill House” by Shirley Jackson–try that one.

I have read that one this Halloween and as atmospheric as The Haunting of Hill House is, this one charmed me on a fantasy level that Hill House didn’t have.

Will be adding this to my “To-Read List”. I’m not one to enjoy books that dwell to far into fantasy land so this sounds like its right up my alley.

I’m not one that easily immerses myself in fantasy either but I really loved this one.
