Book Review: The Grownup by Gillian Flynn

When a young woman, who has grown up rough but believes she makes her way in the world in a transactional balance is approached by a new client, Susan Burke, a disenchanted and haunted mother of two, she is faced with a tempting prospect to make the most of the desperate Susan Burke’s predicament but is she going to be the one manipulated this time?

As I read this short story I was immediately disappointed in the knowledge that this was going to end too soon. As Flynn always does she manages once again to terrify with the possibility of a supernatural malevolence but ultimately the lack of the supernatural element leaves you chilled far greatly than if it was just a ghost story.

I can only hope after reading all her full length novels that this is introductory to her next full length novel, which in my opinion, is long overdue.
