At school I always enjoyed reading and writing poetry, but as I pursued the sciences, I slammed the door on enjoying the arts, which I sorely regret. I have been dabbling in reading poetry blogs and trying to find a piece of myself that I buried so long ago and this poem really spoke to me. To some of us who are rediscovering our need for the arts, blogs like these are therapeutic.
You Lie Like You Always Do
You lie, like you always do
I always knew
Your words were so sly
They play out like a sweet song
Like a soothing lullaby
They make me believe
The truth’s in sight
They fill me with anticipation
From day to night
Only to find disappointment
The story of your life
You lie, like you always do
Yet I continued to remain a fool
Giving you another chance
Entertaining the possibility
That your words will eventually come to be
They make me believe
The truth’s in sight
They fill me with anticipation
From day to night
Only to find disappointment
The story of your life
You lie, like you always do
And now I will never believe you
It’s over now–you lose
You will never be able to fool
Me again
I’ve seen and heard enough to know
It’s time to go

That was beautiful! I feel your pain about not having enough time for the arts. I’m still at school, and we don’t get to do nearly enough creative things.
Thanks for visiting Addlepates and Book Nerds! 🙂
