This memoir written by Jane Hawking spanning from her first recollections of meeting Stephen as a child to their acrimonious marriage breakdown is enlightening, sensitive and told from her point of view with unapologetic truth and reality. Told in a lot of detail about their early years together and Stephen Hawking’s early career as well as about Jane’s own academic and leisure pursuits.
I admire her strength and selflessness and her resolve in getting through some demanding and trying situations. The book is not a get-to-know-more about Stephen Hawking, it is an account of the author’s experience and life, her memoir of the years she spent with him. I found the read humbling and am filed with admiration for this strong, intelligent woman who is devoted to family.
I normally avoid biopics because I find them too beholden to the public’s image of the author, but you make the book this latest biopic is based on seem very interesting.

I was fascinated by how she compared the difficulties she faced.

I have been wanting to read this book since I found out about it a couple of weeks ago. I watched the film adaptation which I thought was fantastic. Thank you for reviewing this book because many of the reviews I’ve read have been negative so yours has given me the final push I needed to actually read it.
